Which BERG go-kart for which age: a buying guide for Mayo

Buying a pedal go-kart is mostly a question of size. BERG builds its karts in families and publishes an age guide for each. We sell five karts from three of those families, from €299. This guide takes the rider's age as the starting point and works forward to a kart.

It is written for homes in County Mayo, where we deliver by courier, and it sticks to what BERG publishes and what we can stand over. Where we do not know something, such as a tyre type or a weight, we leave it out and you can ask us.

The three families and BERG's age guides

Age by age: which kart fits

Find the rider's age in the left column. The middle column lists every family whose BERG guide includes that age. The right column is our advice.

RiderInside BERG's guide forWhat we would do
Age 3BuddyOne answer. The Buddy is the only family whose guide reaches down to three, so the decision left is colour: the B.Orange, or the Lua in pink and green.
Age 4Buddy, RallyTwo guides meet here. Most four-year-olds are better served by the Buddy, which they can manage straight away. For a child who is tall and already confident on a bike or trike, the Rally is worth a phone call to us.
Ages 5 to 8Buddy, Rally, XLAll three guides apply, which makes these the hardest years to choose for. Near five and small, think Buddy. In the middle, the Rally is the natural fit. If the kart is to be shared with much older children or an adult, go to the XL.
Ages 9 to 12Rally, XLThe Buddy's guide has ended. The Rally still fits, but there are fewer years left in it, so for a child of eleven or twelve the XL is usually the better buy.
Age 13 to adultXLOne answer again. The XL is the only family BERG rates past twelve, and it is rated up to adult.

The middle column is BERG's. The advice is ours, and it assumes a child of ordinary height for their age. Age guides cannot see how tall your child is. If yours is well above or below average, ring 091 423 369, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, before you order.

A price opens that kart on TrampolinesIreland.com, our shop, where the order is placed. Photos of all five are on the go-karts page. The Buddy Lua is the Buddy B.Orange in a pink and green colour scheme, so those two rows differ in colour and price only.

    Three questions besides age

    1. How tall is the rider? Two children of the same age can differ a good deal in height. Have a height ready when you ring.
    2. Who else will ride? A kart in a house with three children gets shared whether you plan it or not. Check each rider against the guides above.
    3. How many years do you want from it? The top of each guide tells you when BERG expects the kart to be outgrown: 8 for the Buddy, 12 for the Rally, and no upper age for the XL.

    BFR, in one paragraph

You will see BFR in BERG model names. It is the hub that lets the rider go forwards, brake by pedalling back, and reverse. In the table it is marked for the one kart of ours that carries it in its name. We do not guess at the others: the shop's product page for each says what it has.

    A word on warranty

The karts carry BERG's manufacturer warranty. Ask us for BERG's current warranty terms on karts.

Before you order: where will it be ridden?

Mayo is, in the words of the County Council's community plan, one of the most rural counties in Ireland, and many homes here are detached houses on rural sites. A site with space is a help, but space is only half of it. The kart needs ground that is safe and off the road: a garden, a yard, a private driveway. It should never go out on a public road. Walk the ground first and decide where the rider may and may not go.

These are pedal karts for home use. They are unrelated to motor karting, and as of October 2026 we could not find a motor karting track operating in County Mayo.

Delivery, returns and Christmas order dates are set out on the main go-karts page and the Mayo delivery page. More guides are in the guides section.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the youngest age for a BERG pedal go-kart?+

Among the karts we sell, three. That is where BERG's age guide for the Buddy begins. The Rally begins at four and the XL at five.

Should I buy a bigger kart for my child to grow into?+

Only if the child is inside BERG's age guide for it today and can reach the pedals and steer in comfort. A kart that is too big is hard to pedal and gets left in the shed. If your child is between two frames, give us their age and height.

One kart for children of different ages: which?+

Look for the family whose guide covers every rider. For a five-year-old and a ten-year-old, the Rally and the XL both do. Add a teenager or a parent and only the XL does. A three-year-old is covered by the Buddy alone, so a house with a toddler and a ten-year-old may be looking at two karts.

Is a pedal go-kart any use on grass?+

It will go on grass, but firm ground is easier, and soft wet grass is hard work for a young rider. If the lawn is the only place for it, expect it to be used most in dry spells.

    Do the karts come assembled?+

We supply and deliver and do not assemble. BERG's manual covers assembly. If something in the manual is unclear, ring us.

How are go-karts delivered in Mayo, and what does it cost?+

Free of charge, including the Buddy B.Orange at €299. The karts are held in our own Irish warehouse and delivered within 48 hours, in Mayo by East West Express of Charlestown, Co. Mayo. Someone must be there to sign.

    Still between two karts?

Ring with the age and height of each rider. Two minutes on the phone usually settles which family, and we can confirm delivery to your part of Mayo on the same call.
